Resource of the Week: Family Engagement

August 21, 2015   |   By Alicia Barnes

As educators jump into a new school year, we're sharing a favorite teaching resource from the  BloomBoard Marketplace each week. This week, we're looking at family engagement with a wonderful video and supplementary materials from Teaching Tolerance.

Teaching Tolerance points out in the introduction to this video, "as children's first teachers, parents play an important role in supporting academic learning at home and at school."

In a selection of three videos, each hovering around a minute, teachers discuss their strategies for engaging parents and other caregivers early and maintaining that engagement throughout the school year. The videos also touch on overcoming language barriers and word choice, and the supplementary materials include reflection questions, recommendations for further reading, and examples of parents surveys and parent postcards.

Watch the video and then leave a review to let us know what you think!
